It’s so inspiring when couples can plan their own wedding and really make the day reflect their style and relationship. Lindsay and Max did just that. Their wedding bands were custom made, they asked the bride’s brother to officiate the ceremony, the bridesmaids got to choose their own dresses and they incorporated different elements that represented their travels together – like the cake, luggage tag table cards and postcard notes. The Josephine Butler Parks Center in NW DC is a great venue for DIY couples. It’s a gorgeous Renaissance-revival style mansion located across the street from Meridian Hill Park. I’ve been shooting here for years and have always loved this place. It was fun to be at Lindsay and Max’s apartment while she and her friends got ready. It had much more character there than your standard hotel room! They have this beautiful blue wall in their living room that I am just obsessed with along with photos and artifacts from traveling around the world. I’m glad the rain stopped before we made our way to the park. Luckily Lindsay was prepared and had matching umbrellas for all of her girls! Max spent his time before the ceremony at a local bar in Adam’s Morgan. Nothing wrong with calming your nerves with a beer or two before you say your vows! After a sweet ceremony, lovely toasts from friends and family and a choreographed father-daughter dance, Lindsay and Max let loose on the dance floor and everyone had a great time celebrating! Congrats to the happy couple!
