Engagement Photo Tips

After your fiancé pops the question, it’s time to let your friends and family know! And what better way to do that than an engagement photo session? Whether you’re using your photos for your save-the-dates, wedding invitations or displaying them around your house, make sure you put some thought into them. These photos should be a reflection of your personalities and display your love for each other. Here are a few tips to help achieve that:

Discuss with your fiancé where you’d like to take your engagement photos. Do you want the pictures to be taken where you had your first date? Or the spot where you proposed? Wherever it is, you’re going to want to choose a location where you can both feel comfortable. If you’re shy, pick a quiet and secluded area, such as a park. If you’re unsure of what types of locations have the best lighting or features, talk to me and I will give you a list of options to choose from!

Wear something that makes you feel confident, comfortable and showcases your personal style. Coordinate with your partner on who is going to be wearing a pattern or texture. The last thing you want is to clash. Feel free to bring more than one outfit, too! Start off dressed up and switch to a more casual look or vice versa. Get creative with your look!

  • Men’s outfit ideas: From solid colors to a check pattern, wear a sharp button-down shirt for a classic look. Try that type of a shirt with either a pair of chinos or form-fitting jeans.
  • Women’s outfit ideas: No matter what season it is, you cannot go wrong with denim. For the Spring and Summer months, try a classic white jean and in the Fall and Winter months, a dark wash jean will look great. Add a peplum sweater or blouse, such as this one, to add a little flare to your look.

Added touches:

Engagement photos are an opportunity to express yourselves as a couple. Have fun with it! For example, if you two met in college, incorporate your college pennant into in the photo. Or, if the two of you are obsessed with your dog, throw on a cute bow tie collar and include him/her in the photo shoot. Try to come to the photo shoot relaxed with an open mind and ready for a fun time with your significant other. I think it’s best to treat the experience as a date – you are looking your best for one another and it’s a time to reflect on how far you’ve come as a couple and on your next great adventure together – marriage!
